Still, a quick rejection is better than them taking months and *then* rejecting it. At least this way it leaves you able to approach someone else.

Doesn't stop it being disappointing though, I'm sure.

...which suggests a policy decision, rather than a specific criticism of your work. Looking at their catalogue, it seems that the stuff they favour has a high degree of conflict in the narrative - when they talk about "strongly-written" works, it appears to be this rather than any particular degree of literary style that they're going for.
